The First Direct Arena, also known as the Leeds Arena, is the new major entertainment venue serving the vibrant city of Leeds, hosting live music, comedy, entertainment shows and sporting events. Since it opened in 2013 the 13,500-capacity fan-shaped venue has hosted some of the biggest and best names in world entertainment.
Rock legend Bruce Springsteen was the first artist to perform at the Leeds Arena, playing to an audience of 13,000 on 24 July 2013, although the venue didn’t officially open its doors until September that year. Since then it has hosted local, national and interactional music heroes alike, from Kaiser Chiefs and Depeche Mode to blink-182 and Natalie Imbruglia.
With the opening of the First Direct Arena, Leeds went from being the largest city in the UK without a major music venue to having one of the best. Plaudits rushed to praise the new Leeds Arena as it was named as one of England’s best landmarks and won New Venue of the Year in 2014. Seems like it was worth the wait.
